Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc. Native Workforce Development Program (NWD) is federally funded on a four-year cycle under the Subtitle D – National Programs Section 166 Native American Programs, Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) formerly known as the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998 by U.S.Department of Labor – Indian & Native American Programs. The purpose of the program is to support employment and training for Indian Native Americans to: Develop more fully academic, occupational and literacy skills; to make individuals more competitive in the workforce and to equip them with entrepreneurial skills necessary for successful self-employment; and promote economic and social development in communities. The principal means of accomplishing these purposes is to enable tribes and Native organizations to provide employment and training services to Indian and Native Americans and their communities. Services should be provided in culturally appropriate manner, consistent with the principles of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (25 U.S.C. 450 et seq) (WIOA sec.166 (a)(2).
The Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides services to its member tribes and the public during normal business hours. The Native Workforce Development Program is a department within that organization to provide training and employment activities to the Native American, Alaskan Native and Hawaiian Natives residing in our services delivery area.
